Frame & Plank Replacement - 1960's 28' Lyman


Joseph receives a steaming white oak frame


Peter inspects the clamping pressure as the frames cool
Eleven new frames aligned and ready for 1/2" planks to be fit

The dry-fit oakume planks are epoxy sealed as per the manufacturer's instruction - "marine grade" plywood ain't what it used to be


Installed with Sikaflex, scarf joints with thickened epoxy and counter-sunk screw heads filled with vinylesther filler

Cockpit Rebuild - 1946 Yankee One Design "Westward Ho"

Existing cockpit removal

Charlie inspects the condition of the structural members

All floors and most frames aft of bulkhead to be replaced

Demolition from around keel bolts

New white oak fitted around keel bolts and to planking


Steam box setup

Teamwork and planning make bending the frames quick work


Bracing method - no place to use clamps
All floors and frames installed - now on to the seats
